UT-Arlington released a statement Tuesday afternoon announcing five new restaurants that will be among the first retail tenants to open in UT-Arlington’s College Park District. The additions are said to reflect the diversity of the campus and will include a sports grill, a Vietnamese-style noodle house, a Mediterranean grill, a pizza franchise, and a frozen yogurt shop.

Two of the restaurants, Pho Xpress and MAVS Sports Grill (not to be confused with Maverick’s Sports Bar and Grill), will operate under the same ownership group. A representative stated that owners are in the process of finalizing architectural plans, but they aim to include elements such as a fire pit and 30 high-definition flat-screen televisions.

Other College Park restaurants will include:

Pie Five Pizza Co., a concept from Pizza Inn Holdings Inc., has announced that it will open at UT Arlington’s College Park. The restaurant specializes in personal-size pizzas assembled in front of the customer, baked and ready to eat in less than five minutes.

GRIP Mediterranean Grill is a new, fast casual concept from the owners of Terra Mediterranean Grill and Ali Baba restaurants. Patrons will be able to “grip” custom sandwiches wrapped in a 10-inch, pita and choose from a selection of salads and sides.

Coolberry Frozen Yogurt offers more than 90 flavors of frozen yogurt and 20 smoothie varieties.

The downtown area near Center and Pecan Streets features high density, mixed-use development designed to couple with UTA’s newest addition, College Park Center. This new state-of-the-art arena features 7000 seats and a wooden basketball floor that can be removed in less than three hours turning it into a multi-function venue. College Park Center also boasts a total 27,000 square feet of street-level retail space, and of that, only about 4,600 square feet – or two to four retail spaces, remain available at the 400 Center St. and UTA Boulevard location, just south of the First Baptist Church of Arlington.

UT-Arlington’s Vice President John Hall is excited about the diversity of tenants College Park will attract. “We have been striving for a strong and diverse mix of tenants, and we are well on our way to achieving that. This development will certainly serve our students, faculty and staff, but it will also be a draw for the downtown Arlington area, guests attending events at College Park Center, and the entire community.”

SRS Real Estate Partners of Dallas is consulting with tenants and leasing spaces to encourage maximum diversity in the district. Jack Burgher, an SRS Real Estate associate who also is working on the College Park development, said prospective tenants are attracted to the sense of place that the mixed-used project is creating. “College students want a unique place to live, hang out, study and grab a meal,” Burgher said. “This kind of development is what helps make a University the place where people want to be.”
