San Antonio Sees Record 95% Retail Space Occupancy

New data released shows that San Antonio started 2024 at 95% occupancy level for retail space, the highest it’s been since the pandemic.

“San Antonio is considered one of the top ten cities to move to for retail businesses,” said Daniel Pedroza, President of the South Texas Commercial Association of Realtors.

One reason retail occupancy is so high in San Antonio right now is because a lot of new businesses are moving into the city, but experts said not a lot of new retail space is being built.

“New shopping centers being built, there are no more, at least under construction at this time because construction costs are too high,” said Anthony Merritt, Vice President of SRS Real Estate Partners.

Merritt said because new retail space construction has been slow, businesses are using any retail space locations available.
