Real estate veteran Chris Maguire has resumed his role as CEO of SRS Real Estate Partners, a position he held from 1993 until 2009.

Maguire, founder and chairman of SRS Real Estate Partners, replaces Clay Smith, who is leaving the company effective April 2.

“We are pleased Chris has agreed to resume his role as CEO of SRS Real Estate Partners,” Hugh Kelly, managing partner and board member for SRS Real Estate Partners, said in a statement. “His vision, energy and leadership will help SRS continue to adapt and grow in the evolving real estate market.”

As founder, Maguire has been associated with the firm for more than 25 years. In addition to his renewed role as CEO, he will continue to chair SRS’ board of members and lead Cypress Equities, an affiliated firm he founded in 1995.

“I have a very special, ongoing connection to SRS Real Estate Partners, and I am committed to enhancing our already strong national presence,” Maguire said. “We’ll do that by continuing to focus on growing the number of transactions and recruiting new professionals who want to be part of a dynamic real estate firm.”

Smith said in an interview with the Dallas Business Journal that he’ll take some time before determining his next move.

“I definitely want to be in the real estate business and I definitely want to be active in the deal side of the business,” he said. “I’ve always been a deals guy and I want to get back to doing deals and not managing a company.”

In an internal announcement to SRS, Smith said he accomplished the goals he set for the firm when he took over the CEO role last year.

“I am honored to have had the opportunity to lead the company through the transition from Staubach Retail Services to SRS Real Estate Partners,” Smith said. “The company is now well positioned to take advantage of the changing real estate market.”
