SRS Real Estate Partners Vice President Scott Tiernan got interested in commercial real estate while growing up in Virginia, where his father was in the development business.
In 2007, he signed on with Atlanta-based O’Leary Partners as a director/associate broker.
Tiernan, who ranked as the No. 7 land producer in 2016 by the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors, joined SRS in 2012, where he now focuses on landlord representation, particularly projects involving land transactions and new development; third-party site selection for retail end-users; and sourcing potential development opportunities.
“I’ve been very fortunate during my career to work with numerous industry leaders who have taught me so very much,” Tiernan said. These role models/mentors include SRS Market Leader Ray Uttenhove, “who is an absolute legend in the industry, and still works harder than anyone in the office, often still the first to arrive and last to leave. Beyond work ethic, Ray has also taught me the value of long-term relationships, and how to create them.”
Others include Scott Harrington, managing principal at Cypress Equities, “who has has helped me figure out how to take a straightforward, high-level view of difficult transactions.”
At his previous stint with O’Leary Partners, “[company president] Dan O’Leary showed me how to maintain a constant pragmatic, yet creative, approach to the business.”
Tiernan has assumed a leadership role at SRS, according to Uttenhove, leading the company’s land and development group, particularly in deals involving complicated assemblages and ground-up development.
“He is a very strong member of the SRS Atlanta team,” she said. “His knowledge of the market and capacity to balance a lot of different assignments simultaneously is unique; and he is good with people, particularly young brokers coming into the business. Scott also has both the vision and the perseverance to keep new development projects on track and all the parties involved on-task.”
