Birmingham's food scene is steadily growing, and downtown is in the cross hairs of local entrepreneurs and national chains.
Waffle House plans to open on the north side of downtown Birmingham, according to a report from AL.com.
The chain went before the Design Review Committee this week for approval for plans for the new restaurant that will be located at 1104 Third Ave. N.
Waffle House, which has a heavy Birmingham footprint already, also has a location at Five Points South, near UAB.
Earlier this month, the team behind Mugshots announced it had signed a 3,962-square-foot lease at Station 121 along Second Ave. S. and 20th Street.
Last week, former Tavern on the Summit owners Bernie Smith and Sam Fallaw announced they are partnering with Chef Abhi Sainju to open an Asian restaurant, Bamboo, at 2212 Second Ave. N., across from El Bario.
More restaurants could follow Glory Bound into Station 121 in the coming months, and SRS Real Estate Group is marketing the downtown Publix development for restaurants and retail.
