The San Francisco 49ers are expanding their retail footprint with new stores coming to San Francisco and San Jose.
The team, which will play its final season in San Francisco this year, plans to open a 2,391-square-foot store this week at Westfield Valley Fair Shopping Center in San Jose. A 3,000-square-foot San Francisco store will open on Sept. 5 in Westfield San Francisco Centre in Union Square.
The 49ers already operate a store in Palo Alto. Many professional sports teams have been growing their retail presence as a way to sell more merchandise. In the past, team stores sold tickets, but most of that happens online now.
