Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is coming to the Birmingham area.
The Kansas-based restaurant chain is planning to expand into Alabama in the next couple of years, according to franchisee operating manager Mike Fyler.
Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, a Kansas-based restaurant chain, is currently planning at least 6 new franchise locations in the greater Birmingham area.
“We’re excited to be coming to Birmingham. The brand is growing in leaps and bounds and Birmingham is a market with friendly people,” Fyler said.
Fyler opened the first franchise for Freddy’s in Kansas, and is now a part of a group that is targeting about 20 locations in Alabama. He said they are looking to put at least six or seven in the Birmingham metro, as well as locations in Tuscaloosa and Huntsville.
The first Freddy’s restaurant in Alabama is under construction now on Doug Baker Boulevard in the Lee Branch area of Shelby County and Fyler said it should open in March.
“We use all local firms for our new developments, and we like to donate back to local schools in our new communities,” Fyler said.
For the first location in Lee Branch, Fyler said Hoover-based Duncan and Thompson Construction is the construction firm, and LBYD and Terracon have also provided engineering work. Martin Smith of SRS Real Estate has served as the broker.
Fyler said there will be a Freddy’s at The Grove shopping center in Hoover in 2016 and one in Vestavia Hills in late 2016 or early 2017. A Tuscaloosa location on 15th and McFarland should break ground next month. He said the franchisee group is also considering future sites in Trussville, Gadsden, Cullman and other areas in metro Birmingham.
