The City of Richardson is considering a proposal to put a movie theater in the landmark Richardson Heights shopping center.

SRS Real Estate Partners and shopping center owner Hartman Richardson Heights Properties LLC are seeking zoning to build a 744-seat “movie grill” in the retail center on North Central Expressway.

Started in 1955, Richardson Heights was one of the first suburban shopping centers along U.S. Highway 75.

The project was significantly remodeled in 2007 and 2008. And it’s been owned by Houston-based Hartman Income REIT since last year.

The planned theater would be located in 35,350 square feet of space formerly used for a Pep Boys automotive store.

The cinema would have seven theaters, according to filings with the City of Richardson.

The entire Richardson Heights shopping center has six buildings with over 200,000 square feet.
