Stop & Shop started in 1914 when the Rabinowitz family opened a corner grocery store in Somerville, MA. Four years later, they introduced the modern self-service supermarket, and by 1947, the company had grown into a flourishing chain of 86 supermarkets. Since then, they've continued to grow and innovate, pioneering the superstore concept and opening over 375 stores throughout New England, New York and New Jersey.
