A downtown Birmingham redevelopment project will welcome its first tenant in early August.

True40 Fitness Studio will open at The Battery on Second Avenue South in the first week of August. The Battery is a redevelopment of the former Birmingham Electric Battery Co., or BEBCO, building at the corner of Second Avenue South and 22nd Street. Other tenants at the building will include new brewery Birmingham District Brewing Co. and renowned Tennessee-based restaurant Gus’s Fried Chicken.

“We are thrilled to have our first tenant opening at The Battery,” said project developer Ward Neely of SRS Real Estate Partners. “True40 embodies everything we were looking for in potential tenants. Their innovative approach to wellness is refreshing and they will be an excellent complement to an exciting lineup. With District Brewing opening right around the corner, this will give you multiple reasons to come to The Battery and stay around for a while.”

True40 will have a grand opening Aug. 2, and will begin classes on Aug. 6. The studio was founded by Allie Weingarten and has locations in Auburn, Cahaba Heights and Tuscaloosa. Kaitlyn Bentley is the licensee and owner of the new location at The Battery in downtown.

“Developments like The Battery, along with a heightened sense of health and wellness across Birmingham, are doing so much for our city,” Bentley said. “We are thrilled to be a part of the momentum throughout downtown, and think the tenants at The Battery will be great additions to Birmingham. We’re also especially excited to offer a convenient, body-changing workout option to residents and employees in the city.”

Information from SRS Real Estate shows that True40’s high-intensity classes are low-impact, balance the body, strengthen the core and provide various challenging exercises in one 60-minute workout. The business also plans to expand to Atlanta this October.

The BBJ named The Battery one of its Commercial Real Estate Deals of the Year for its role in continuing the revitalization and vibrancy of the city core, especially in the burgeoning Midtown area.
